| In this volume European and US based researchers look at the connection between migration and domestic work from different perspectives. The book is divided into three parts: domestic work - business as usual; transnational migration spaces: policies, families and household management; states and markets: migration regimes and strategies. The contributors elaborate on the phenomenon of 'domestic work' in late modern societies by discussing different methodological and theoretical approaches in an interdisciplinary setting. The volume also looks at the gendered aspects of domestic work; it asks why the re-introduction of domestic workers in European households has become so popular and will argue that this phenomenon is challenging gender theories. Putzen, Pflegen, Kochen ...: die Renaissance von Hausarbeit und Migration in der spätkapitalistischen Gesellschaft ist das Thema dieses Buches. Noch vor zehn Jahren seien migrantische Hausarbeiterinnen in europäischen Haushalten eher selten gewesen. Heute arbeiteten sie für Mittelklassefamilien, Eltern und AlleinerzieherInnen. Arbeiterinnen in Haushalten würden mittlerweile als weltweit größter Arbeitsmarkt für Frauen betrachtet und Europa sei davon ein Teil geworden. Diese Dynamik habe eine Verweiblichung der Migration bewirkt. Europäische und US-amerikanische WissenschafterInnen widmen sich der Frage, weshalb die Beschäftigung von Haushaltsarbeiterinnen in europäischen Haushalten so zugenommen hat, eine Tendenz, die Gender-Theorien herausfordere.
