This book focuses on Cambodian female politicians and the strategies they deploy in their attempts to destabilize the cultural boundaries and hierarchies that restrain them. As the book uses interviews as its primarily source of information it explores how women use discourses and identities as means of resistance, it explores the resisting performances the respondents practice, while mainly leaving out how resistance is exercised in relation to those who stereotype and label. The value of this book is twofold: it gives a unique insight into the political struggles of Cambodian women and offers new insights to studies of power. Contents: 1. Introduction 2. Hybrid liberal democracy in a Cambodian context 3.The look of discursive disciplinary power 4. Education and normalizingas strategies of resistance 5. The strategy of establishing new truths 6. Womens identities as means of resistance 7. De-naturalizing as resistance 8. Globalization, womens political participation and the politics ofresistance 9. Concluding reflections References Index | |
