Beschreibung:
This issue of Agenda contributes to the growing endeavour to place the focus on gender and climate change in Africa and the importance of social research situating women and gender in the centre of both research on climate change as well as in global and local policy formulation and implementation. The contributors highlight diverse environmental and gender concerns through perspectives that emphasise the inclusion of women, and a more holistic consultative approach to climate change mitigation and adaptation. The issue includes research that has been conducted in several countries on the continent, beyond South Africa: including Zambia, Rwanda and Nigeria. The research focusses on the conditions that are needed for sustainable development and on climate change adaptation and mitigation, highlighting the potential and the obstacles to addressing gender inequalities in rural development.
